Time for Spring Cleaning. Took roughly 5 hours to clear, evaluate and re-evaulate but after it was all done I contacted a local thrift store gem Out Of Closet.
Out Of Closet is “The Best Kept Secret” in downtown Brooklyn known for their #PinkWall and that 96¢ of every dollar collected by their stores directly fund AIDS Healthcare Foundation’s HIV/AIDS programs and services in the U.S. and abroad provided by AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF). A global organization providing cutting-edge medicine and advocacy to 1,000,000 patients in 39 countries worldwide in the US, Africa, Latin America/Caribbean, the Asia/Pacific Region and Eastern Europe.
I was first introduced to in 2014, when planning a Thrift Tour in Brooklyn to shed light on some of my favorite secondhand shops and donations centers. I can remember walking in for the first time. Upon arrival there was a comfy shaggy couch from the 70’s that might have belonged to the Scooby Doo crew and I wanted to have a photoshoot on, but I gathered myself. I combed the racks for hours in search of 80’s and 90′ fashion finds and talking to friendly, stylish staff along the way. This store has mostly everyday items like furniture, kitchenware, books, music, and outdoor gear, the prices are extremely low, almost give-away cheap. If you need a funky 1970s fondue set or an analog camera, this is the place to find it.
Though I left empty handed, I returned many times in the years to come.
Many Out of the Closet Thrift Stores locations offer free HIV testing. Tests are performed by certified testing counselors, using the most advanced testing technology and test results are ready in 20 minutes or less. There is no more paperwork to fill out, and you can use a iPads to complete your test!
